Another Fiberon Deck. I'm getting quite fond of the Fiberon decking and
this new tropics line is fantastic looking.
It has a 20 year limited warranty, and I really like the high density composite. Fiberon stands up to our Northern California weather extremes excellently.

The Healdsburg Tropics deck
Again we were extremely lucky and had an owner that was unbelievably friendly and knowledgeable. This time our owner was living and working in San Francisco so we primarily used the Internet. We met and discussed the design, I suggested a few different types of materials. She did the research and even went into a local supplier in her area and selected the specs for the Anderson Doors which was very helpful.
This Deck Project
The owner already had a great idea for the design and location, so that was easy I saw no reason to change that. The HOA (home owners association) was very reasonable. If you didn't change the home radically they were okay, which is nice. There were some minor things to take into account with the location so we decided on the Fiberon decking and a top of the line door Anderson.
Design Criteria:
Replace the old doors with quality but not do any damage to the interior. Replace the tired old concrete patio with nice looking decking, and rail the one side. Not too high so there would be only a step down to the rear lawn.
The Results: We did better than that, we decided to take the railing around the front so there would be a better feeling of privacy and we made it out of hand selected redwood and designed it in a way we could use copper caps. The decking we used the new Tropics line by Fiberon, which I am very impressed with. I'm looking forward to doing a blind fastened deck with it. Finally the door, it was a retro-fit, tough one when the original framing isn't perfect. We got it though, love these doors the quality is amazing.
