The Country Meadow Inn (cmi) deck is at a bed & breakfast located in Windsor California, just north of San Francisco in the heart of wine country, Sonoma County.
The existing deck on the old farmhouse, circa. 1890, was due for an update.
We thought it would be best in this situation to use a construction heart redwood decking, as it ties in better with the historic home. Decks are a relatively new item for homes so this project still has it's original porch as well, but a beautiful redwood deck certainly enhances the enjoyment of our California weather. We put in a pergola, and some lattice work to also help a little with blending it in. Con-heart redwood is a very stable decking material, see the redwood page for more info.
Being a bed and breakfast this deck is considered a commercial project, and that has a few more stringent codes than a regular homes deck. We added a few obvious things like a ramp and two grippable handrails on every stair, but also colored tread strips for the blind and a landing at the threshold a min. of 5 feet in diameter for wheelchair access. We put in wheelchair curbs and few more American Disabilities Act (ada) items, look through the images to see those.
